Below is your healthy home checklist you can use to make your home healthier.

Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most important places to look into when you are looking to have a healthy home. This is the where most of your meals come from. The first thing is using glass containers instead of plastic. This is because if you microwave your food using plastic can have health effects. Glass on the hand is not affected by heat or the microwave.

Many food cans are usually lined with bisphenol-A, a toxic chemical that leaches into food, always try to avoid canned foods. For water, use a reusable water bottle like stainless. Cleaning your kitchen should be thorough to ensure that there are is no dust or dirt. Dirt and dust can cause allergic reactions.

Bathroom

Many air fresheners contain toxic chemicals that can contaminate the air you breathe. Look for natural alternatives that do not contain chemicals, but it safer to get rid of it permanently. If you use fragrance, then it is not a good idea because it is hard to know what is in it. Make sure you always check the ingredients before you buy any product.

When buying toothpaste, choose fluorine-free for kids younger than 2 and teach the older kids to spit after brushing because fluoride is toxic if it is swallowed. Check the ingredients and choose a toothpaste that doesn’t have triclosan. If you use liquid hand soap at home, then you should avoid using antibacterials.

Laundry and Closet

The cleaners you use should be environmentally friendly, such as Nellie’s All Natural. Make sure you check the full ingredients before you use them. Many cleaners have labels on them, making it easy to identify them. The best way to ensure you are on the safe side is going with products that fully disclose their ingredients. You don’t need many ingredients to keep your home clean. Skip laundry products that you can do without.

Bedroom

Your bedroom is your safe haven and should be free of allergens and toxins. Be sure to keep the humidity below 50% in your bedroom and clean the room weekly. Consider changing over to bamboo bed linens and adding dust-might covers to your bedding. If you do suffer from dust allergies remember to remove book-shelves and other dust collecting surfaces from the room. You should also keep your closet doors closed.

All around the house

If your home was built before 1978, then it probably contains lead paint. Make sure you get professional help before the effect of the lead paint starts affecting the health of your family.

Try using non-toxic alternatives of insecticides and pesticides and let them be the last resort. If you decide to use them, ensure they are far from children. The above is your healthy home checklist that will go a long way in helping you have a healthy home and reduce toxic chemicals.
